
Garrett Fischbach, violinist and violist, is a tenured member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York City and a former member of the San Francisco Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. In 2004, he released to critical acclaim a CD recording of the Sonatas and Partita for Violin Solo by J.S. Bach, using an instrument by David Caron. He currently plays a Caron violin. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree with high honors from Boston University, where he studied violin with George Neikrug and Yuri Mazurkevich, and a Master of Music degree from Northern Illinois University, where he studied violin with Shmuel Ashkenasi. He attended the Taos School of Music in 1993. An avid teacher, he has given master classes at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, China; the Shanghai Conservatory of Music; and the Mannes College for Music in New York City.
