Ronald F. Grinage

Ronald F. Grinage holds a Master of Music Degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Bachelor of Music Degree from Arizona State University. Since moving to Santa Fe in 1983, he has established himself as one of the area's leading pianists. His appearances as soloist, recitalist, accompanist, and collaborator in chamber music have earned him critical acclaim for his technical command, versatility, and musicianship. In addition to his pianistic abilities, he is a trained singer with numerous solo and choral appearances to his credit, including concert tours of Russia, Poland, England, and Scotland.

A seasoned performer of both classical and Broadway, Mr. Grinage has performed with the major local musical organizations, including the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Santa Fe Opera, the Desert Chorale, the Berkshire Choral Festival in Santa Fe, Coro de Camara, New Mexico Pro Coro, and Taos Soundscapes.

Mr. Grinage joined the musical staff of the Santa Fe Opera in 1987 as staff accompanist and since the 2000 season has operated the Electronic Libretto System for three of the five operas presented each summer. Ron also served as an accompanist for the Opera in the Schools Program (sponsored by the Guilds of the Santa Fe Opera) and toured the Southwest, performing arias and opera excerpts for more than 40,000 Elementary, Junior High, and High School students for fifteen years.

From February 1984 to April of 2010 Ron was musical director of the popular La Casa Sena Cantina and has prepared and accompanied the cast for more than 45 Broadway Shows during that time including 'Wicked', 'Phantom of the Opera', 'Oklahoma!', 'A Chorus Line', 'Follies', 'Into the Woods', 'Kiss Me, Kate!', 'Chicago', 'Cabaret', and 'My Fair Lady'. One of his most memorable Broadway experiences was as substitute keyboard player for 12 performances of the National Touring Company of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera in Popejoy Hall in Albuquerque in 2000.

Ron has taught privately for more than thirty years, and has been on the faculties of the United World College of the American West in Montezuma, NM, the College of Santa Fe, and the Santa Fe Community College. As a music lecturer he is an active speaker on opera, chamber music, and Broadway musicals for the Road Scholar Program (formerly Elderhostel) in Santa Fe.

Mr. Grinage joined the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico, an affiliate of Music Teachers National Association, in 1983 and has held the positions of PEP Chair, Advertising Manager, Newsletter Editor, District Vice President, Vice President, and is currently serving as President.
